Morning peeps…there is a super new embroidery magazine called ‘Hoop-La’ out woo hoo, about time there is a modern take on embroidery to showcase how exciting, innovative and creative it can be and not dull at all! I love embroidery so bring on more issues please!

In the second edition out last month i was asked to create away a special bespoke tutorial. A cute ‘Bessie Bear’ embroidered card…slightly obsessed with bears at the mo. and dedicated most of my last greeting collection to my love for bears! have a peek on nototnthehighstreet.com

hOOPLA maG fc

Here is my tutorial with a few photos that is in the latest issue of ‘Hoop-La’. I appliqued some ditsy vintage fabric as the main body of Bessie then stitched a scalloped ribbon and a ickle tassel trim on top…always nice to layer up trims!

Greeting Card 1

I used various stitches such as: back, chain, satin, seed and the two ickle buttons were created by using the buttonhole stitch. I always separate out my embroidery thread to have variation in the thickness to make the bear have more relief in certain areas than others. I then placed ‘Bessie Bear’ on a good quality FSC textured greeting card and simply stitched ‘hello’ on to the front of the card. You could always write a loved ones name or an initial to personalise your greeting card. Why not even try stitching on to the envelope too… making your card even more special!

A few designers in ‘Print & Pattern’

Freckleface is a small greeting card company like myself based in Nottingham and creates quirky and whimsical designs gaining inspiration from her love of everything Scandinavian. I love love love her style using collage and hand drawn designs then manipulating them in illustrator and photoshop. Freckleface also designs mugs, cushions and wall art.

Sanna Annuka is a designer and printmaker inspired by Summers spent in Northern Finland, a love for bold colour and graphic lines expresses her distinct style beautifully. I NEED to buy one of her silk screen prints to beautify one of my walls…one day!

Kate Sutton is a freelance illustrator inspired by nature, patterns, maps and old children’s books’. Kate has a loose style of illustration and has a unique eye for colour with her designs featured in magazines, books, t-shirts, bags as well as taking part in numerous exhibitions she is certainly a busy talented designer!
